Disney World Hotel Tier Quiz
Six questions about your budget, room layout, and trip style โ and we'll tell you whether your family belongs at a Disney Value, Moderate, Deluxe, Deluxe Villa, or off-property hotel.
Picking a Disney World hotel is its own decision tree. The "tier" you stay at โ Value vs Moderate vs Deluxe vs Deluxe Villa vs Off-Property โ changes the trip more than which specific resort you pick within that tier. Budget, room layout (especially for families of 5), how much you care about Disney perks, and how you plan to get to the parks all push different directions. This quiz weights all six and recommends the tier that fits your family.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Value, Moderate, and Deluxe at Disney World?โผ
Price and theming. Value Resorts (~$150โ$300/night) have giant icon statues, simple rooms, and food courts. Moderates (~$300โ$500) have themed pools, table-service restaurants, and better landscaping. Deluxe (~$700โ$1,200) are heavily themed, walk- or monorail-distance to a park, and have premier dining. All three give you the same on-property perks (Early Entry, Extended Evening Hours).
Is staying on-property at Disney World worth it?โผ
It depends on three things. (1) If you don't have a car and don't want to deal with one, on-property's transportation does it for you. (2) If Early Entry / Extended Evening Hours matter (extra hour at parks), only on-property gets them. (3) If theming and immersion are the point of the trip, Deluxe especially earns the price. If you have a car, you don't care about extra park hours, and you just need a clean bed, off-property typically saves $100โ$300+ a night.
How do families of 5 fit in a Disney World room?โผ
Most standard Disney rooms max at 4 guests, which is the #1 problem for families of 5. Your options: (1) Disney Deluxe Villas (DVC studios sleep 5, 1-bedrooms sleep 4-5 with a kitchen), (2) Art of Animation Family Suites (the cheapest 5-person on-property option), (3) Cabins at Fort Wilderness, (4) Off-property suites at hotels like Wyndham Bonnet Creek or Marriott World Center. Two connecting standard rooms is usually more expensive than one larger unit.
Which Disney resorts are walking distance to a park?โผ
Walking-distance to Magic Kingdom: Disney's Contemporary (and Bay Lake Tower) โ true walk path. Walking-distance to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios: BoardWalk Inn/Villas, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Disney's Riviera (also Skyliner). Polynesian and Grand Floridian have monorail-adjacent access to Magic Kingdom but aren't a literal walk. No Disney resort walks to Animal Kingdom.
Can I rent DVC points to stay in a Deluxe Villa for less?โผ
Yes โ and many families do. Disney Vacation Club point rentals through services like David's Vacation Club Rentals or DVC Rental Store can run roughly 30-50% below cash rates for the same Villa. The tradeoff: you pay upfront, no last-minute changes, and dining plans cost extra. For trips planned 4+ months out, DVC rental is the single best Deluxe Villa value.
What's the Skyliner and which resorts have it?โผ
The Skyliner is Disney's gondola system connecting EPCOT and Hollywood Studios to several resorts: Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Riviera. It's free, fast, and a hit with kids. If your trip is heavy on EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, picking a Skyliner resort is one of the best transit moves โ often beats both buses and driving.
